  • Where are you located?
    We are centrally located in Pembroke Pines in Broward County. Our location is conveniently located within a short driving distance to Miami-Dade County and Palm Beach County.
  • Do you deliver?
    We deliver anywhere in South Florida, from the Florida Keys to the Palm Beaches. We also deliver wedding cakes to the Treasure Coast.
  • Can I pick-up my order?
    One and two-tiered cakes and small desserts are available for pick-up at our Pembroke Pines studio. The Starfish Cottage Cakes will not be held responsible for damage incurred after orders are picked up. Client or their designee agrees to transport cakes in an air-conditioned vehicle at all times, on a flat surface and away from objects that could obstruct or collapse on the cake/desserts.
  • Can we stop by and taste your cakes and desserts?
    The Starfish Cottage Cakes is a private cake studio operating under the Florida Cottage Food law. We are not a retail bakery and are not open to the public. Our wedding cake tastings and consultations are by appointment only. Please contact us to request an appointment.
  • Why aren’t your cake prices listed on your website?
    Every cake that we create is unique to each client - from the flavors to the design and style. Custom cakes and desserts are priced based on the complexity of each request. We’ve produced hundreds of cakes in a multitude of styles, and we know which techniques are more labor intensive than others. We are happy to provide you with a customized quote for your cake and/or dessert table once you complete the Cake Inquiry Form below.
  • How far in advance should I order my cake and desserts?
    We encourage you to place your order as soon as possible. We only accept a limited amount of orders every week to ensure that every cake that leaves our studio meets our high quality standards. A 50% non-refundable retainer is required to reserve your date. The remaining balance is due 1 month before your event. Orders placed within 1 month of the event must be paid in full at the time of the order. On occasion, we are able to accommodate last minute orders. Rush order fees and/or surcharges may apply depending on the cake design. If your event is during the holidays or high wedding season, we recommend securing your date as soon as possible.
  • What is the process for ordering my cake?
    Submit the details of your event via our Cake Inquiry Form below and provide as much detail as possible. We will be in touch to discuss your order and gather any final details. An electronic invoice will be sent to you detailing the specifics of your order. Please review the order and confirm that all of the information is correct, including the delivery location and the time of delivery/pickup. We require a 50% non-refundable retainer to reserve your date on our calendar. The remaining balance is due one month before your event.
  • I received a quote a few months ago, can you honor the same price?"
    When we provide a quote for your order, it is guaranteed for 30 days. After this time, we will review the quote and we may not be able to honor the same price. Additionally, we cannot guarantee that your date is still available.
  • I don’t know how much cake to order because I don’t have my final guest list. Should I still place my order?
    If you are unsure about the number of guests attending your event, we suggest ordering 25% less than your anticipated guest list. We are happy to increase your order up to 1 month prior to your event. In the event your order is reduced by 25% than what you ordered, you may incur a penalty of 50% of the decreased dollar value, if we have declined other potential orders due to your event.
  • What other desserts do you offer?
    We offer cupcakes, cake pops and other decadent chocolate-covered desserts. Please email us for our current dessert menu.
  • Do you offer cake tastings?
    We are happy to offer cake tastings for our wedding clients. We know that selecting the baker for your special day is an important decision, and we would love to be a part of that experience.
  • Why do you charge for your cake tastings, when other bakeries do not?"
    The Starfish Cottage Cakes is a boutique, small-batch bakery and we only bake to order. Our cakes are not mass produced and frozen months in advance. We always bake fresh in preparation for your tasting appointment to ensure the best products. We want you to taste the same freshness in the cake as you will receive on your wedding day. Additionally, the tasting fee includes one hour of consultation time to discuss and design your unique wedding cake.
  • What flavors do you offer?
    Please email us for our most current flavor selections. If there is a cake flavor that you don’t find in this list, feel free to let us know and we will be happy to accommodate your request. We can even suggest flavor combinations that complement the theme of your event or seasonal flavor options.
  • What is the smallest cake that I can order?
    Our smallest one-tiered cake feeds 12-15 guests. The smallest two-tiered cake serves 22-25 guests.
  • What is your most requested cake flavor?
    Our Signature Vanilla Rum Cake is by far the most popular cake flavor in recent years. We developed this recipe over a 3 year period and we always get amazing reviews from our clients. The rum is baked into the batter then infused overnight with our signature rum sauce. If you have ever been to a bridal show where we are in attendance, you’ll remember us by our delicious rum cake.
  • Do you offer gluten-free or vegan cakes?
    We are happy to offer a limited menu of vegan cake selections as well as gluten-free options, for those clients that enjoy these diets as part of their lifestyle choices. However, we are not exclusively gluten-free therefore we may not be your best fit if you have a gluten sensitivity or allergy.
  • Are you kosher or halal certified?
    No we are not, but we do offer animal-free and alcohol-free options for a select few of our cake flavors.
  • Do you cut and serve the cake at events?
    Normally, the cakes are cut and served by the catering company or the staff or the venues. If you are hosting a private event or would like to inquire about this extra service, please let us know at the time of your inquiry.
  • I don’t like fondant, can you make us a buttercream-only cake? "
    Absolutely! Keep in mind that South Florida is one of the hottest and most humid climates in the country. There is a reason why some cake designs are made in fondant and not buttercream. We may suggest some modifications from the inspiration cake to make it work. Buttercream cakes are more sensitive to the sun and temperature and they are not advisable outdoor weddings and events, since we do not add artificial preservatives or chemical stabilizers to our delicious frostings or our cakes.
  • Can I get an exact copy of a cake I saw on Pinterest?
    As much as we would love to say yes, we would prefer not to. We believe that purchasing a custom cake is an opportunity for you to get a one-of-a-kind cake design. We cake designers spend an enormous amount of time planning and creating masterpieces that show off our skills and talents. Not only does copying a cake limit our creativity, but we cannot recreate another baker’s cake exactly the same as they would; just as DaVinci could not have painted the Mona Lisa exactly the same twice. If there are certain elements that you love from different cakes that you saw on Pinterest, Instagram or a bridal blog, we can draw inspiration from them and design one unique for your event.
  • Do you offer discounted or free cakes for bloggers or social media influencers?
    Not at this time. We collaborate with many local wedding and event professionals throughout the year that organize closed stylized photo shoots. We feel this is the best way to work creatively within our community to help one another to promote our businesses. Currently, we have exclusivity agreements with certain vendors for these types of shoots and we are not accepting new collaboration requests. Certain exceptions may be made for stylized shoots with guaranteed publications.
  • Do you rent cake stands?
    We are pleased to offer rentals that include cake and dessert stands, platters and a few dessert table linens. Rentals are exclusively for our clients and may not be rented without a cake or dessert table order. If you are ordering other desserts and candies not from our bakery, let us know so that we can provide you with sufficient rentals for your needs. A credit card is required for all rentals, and the credit card authorization form will be kept on file until the rentals are returned to us clean and in their original condition. Rentals must be returned within 3 business days after your event, or we can pick them up at the conclusion of your event for an additional fee.
  • Do you ship?
    At this time, our cakes and desserts are not available for shipping. Other arrangements can be made to get you our tasty desserts to your location. We are happy to refer you to other reputable bakers and cake designers in your area that are highly recommended who are equivalent to our standards.
  • Can I or my family member bake the cake and have you decorate it?
    To ensure safe food handling standards throughout the entire process of making your cake and desserts, and to comply with our business liability insurance, we are unable to decorate cakes or accept ingredients that are not purchased and/or processed through our business.
  • Do you offer payment plans?
    We are pleased to offer payment plans for any orders over $500. A credit card is required for all payment plan agreements, and the credit card authorization form will be kept on file and charged on the agreed upon dates. All remaining balances are due 1 month before your event and your order is not confirmed until the fifty percent non-refundable retainer is collected.
  • What types of payment do you accept?
    We accept all major credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover. Our invoices are sent via PayPal or Intuit’s secure servers.​ If you prefer to pay for you order in cash, payment must be made in person at our Pembroke Pines location.
  • What is your refund policy?
    Due to the nature of our custom made products, we are unable to offer refunds. We will work to rectify any errors on our part to the fair satisfaction of all parties. The client must notify The Starfish Cottage Cakes immediately so that we may have the opportunity to correct any issues. Any uneaten portions of the cake must be returned within 24 hours.
